Our Marriage Conferences have become very popular and are lots of fun! We love sharing the word and our own testimony with married couples and seeing them laugh and become free. Many are dealing with the trauma of violence and childhood wounds for the first time. They're learning to open up to each other and share their thoughts, dreams, and pain. They're receiving inner healing, forgiveness, and a new respect and tenderness in their marriage and home. Dysfunctional homes are being restored, and churches are becoming places of healing. We're so excited to see them grow and heal!
The same healing is taking place in our Forge Pastor Training where we urge the wives to receive the training together with their husbands even when they're not actively involved in ministry. In addition to pastoral ministry, Forge deals with marriage, family, parenting and many other issues related to inner healing. As a result, marriages are becoming strong and entire familes are healing. This is bringing health and strength to the entire church and community.
To better understand the cultural context, it's common in Uganda for couples to live apart. Because of work or other reasons, the husband will frequently stay away for weeks, even months, in another city without a visit home. Of course, the children suffer and so does the marriage. God is bringing conviction, however, and more and more couples are understanding His design for the "one flesh relationship." Little by little, they are healing and making vital life decisions to bring change to their homes and marriages.
Child rearing and parent responsibility is another focus of our ministry. One of our goals is to convince parents not to send their children to boarding school where they suffer loneliness, anxiety, and bullying. While there are many good boarding schools, we feel that children fare better when they stay with their parents and get their education locally where the parents can be more involved in their own children's lives and studies.
